I'll try to find out about the plans for the ladder now that the Season #3 finals are over. We might do a reset just before the Open starts, so in five days' time. Or we might reopen now and reset just before the start of the Open. It's my impression that we'd need to do a reset in order to properly capture the scores and to ascertain who wins the Open event.
I have every reason to believe that the ladder will open immediately after the Open is over, and will remain open for quite some time. So instead of two months being blocked, as you were concerned about, it's only a few days, and for a very good reason.
I hope that info helps.

Am I the only one thinking that the selection through ladder play is just wrong, and promote grinding with gimmick build more than anything else?
Imo ladder should always be up, and there should be a separate tourmament, either with invited teams (maybe some kind of soccer like division, promoted/relegated teams stuff) or based on previous results/ladder. The ELO based ladder must be run for longer than 1 month to really mean something.

Agreed, the 3 day ladder idea is just going ot have guilds running a gimmick build, and as asson as guilds know they are going to lose they will ismply resign and get on with the next battle. This event has very little emphasise on skill of the team and I would be surprised if the winners of this event are runnnig a balanced build. I'm expecting to see Fc Air Spike, R Spike, SB/RI or TriSmiteBunnies win it...

Thanks for answering Gaile...
I just want to agree with the OP that "Closed Ladder = Extreme Yuckiness" if you are part of the 99% of us not involved in the GWWC. The more Open Ladder the better!

Yeah I hate the closed ladder, ANet should get the top 16 writen down, then reset the ladder and leave it alone until the next tournament thing begins, then reset the ladder.

Why not just have more than one ladder. One for GWWC and the other for non championship bouts?

Who cares if they run a gimmick build. It won't help them in the finals or tournements. If you win with a gimmick build 100-2 then its obvious its a superior build for that team's playing style.
Most of the time its harder to play a gimmick build than it is a balanced. Balanced each person has a job and that's all the have to do. You set up your positioning and know where to move to when. Gimmick builds are much more complex in how they run and require constant cordination.
Gimmick builds support more team work than a balanced build does.
Back on topic. They should give use some kind of mini season during the tournaments. For many people I know GvG is the only reason they even play GW. Without it they are doing something else with their time. Then come back for the season and we have to basicly start all over on the team work.

But it'll get them a free trip to Germany with free accomodation and a small cash prize just for turning up.

It's all about the free trip. Not like the group who wins cures cancer or something, just something we all enjoy and if we have to dig at the bottom of the pot to just get by, I won't judge them.
